Today I did my first WordPress Writing Prompt.
…with some modifications – I couldn’t quite limit my guest list to 6 people ;). My top ten guests for a hypothetical dinner together are;
1 ) Keith Green: This man’s music and testimony have significantly impacted my faith. He died five years before I was even born but his story has lived on. Check out his biography No Compromise and this song, to see both his musical talent and heart for God. He deeply loved Jesus and has challenged me in my own faith.
2 ) Flannery O’Connor: This Catholic author has taught me much about faith, symbolism, writing and the South. If you are at all interested in writing, Mystery & Manners is a MUST read.
3 ) Jack Kerouac: I love poetic, soulful, dramatic, slightly melancholy, artistic, wandering people. Jack is all of that plus some, Check out On the Road (his classic work) for more.
4 ) C.S. Lewis: Who wouldn’t want to have dinner with this man?
5 ) Nellie Bly: Woman, journalist, pioneer, risk-taker. She went under-cover in a mental institution, spent 6 months as a foreign correspondent in Mexico and traveled around the world in 72 days. In 1888. One of my heroes.
6 ) Bernie Taupin: He is Elton John’s lyricist – the poet behind songs like; Your Song, Yellow Brick Road, Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man & Candle in the Wind. When I was in high school I would lay on my bedroom floor and listen to Elton John’s music – I connected with his music than (and now) for a variety of reasons. My favorite song is probably, Belfast. Thought-provoking.
7 ) Kate Chopin: This lady wrote one of the most honest and complex portrayals of femininity, individualism and love I’ve read. I wrote about my reaction to her story, The Awakening, here.
8 ) The Apostle Peter: The books of 1 & 2 Peter are among my favorite portions of Scripture. Peter’s life was an example of surrender, repentance and growth in his faith. I look forward to meeting him one day.
“In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed” – 1 Peter 1:6-7
9 ) Adoniram Judson: I deeply respect the committment, determination and steadfast character of this man. He was one of the pioneer missionaries to Burma (now Myanmar) and gave his life to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I want to be like that.
10 ) Joseph Smith: I have several questions about a certain angel Moroni, golden plates, beliefs on polygamy and the development of Mormonism.
Who would you have dinner with?
